Toros, 66ers Complete Trade

January 22, 2007 - NBA G League (G League)
Tulsa 66ers News Release

TULSA, Okla., Jan. 22, 2007 - The NBA Development League has approved a trade that will send Austin Toros forward Scott Merritt to Tulsa in exchange for 66ers guard Cheyne Gadson. Both Merritt (6-10, 240) and Gadson (6-2, 205) are D-League veterans.

From Marquette, Merritt has played in 21 games (17 starts) this season for Austin, averaging 26.3 minutes, 9.7 points and 6.7 rebounds. In 105 career D-League games with Columbus and Austin, Merritt has averaged 28.7 minutes, 11.4 points and 6.2 rebounds.

Gadson has played in 22 games (16 starts) and was Tulsa's second-leading scorer at 16.2 points per game. He also averaged 43.7 minutes, 3.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists. In 56 career D-League games with Huntsville and Tulsa, the Oklahoma State product has averaged 23.0 minutes, 10.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

"To get a player of Merritt's ability, we had to give up a pretty valuable guy on our side and Cheyne has been doing really well. He has a chance to play at next level. But, we need a guy that can score inside and be a low post scorer. Scott will be able to play that part," said Tulsa 66ers head coach Joey Meyer.

Gadson is expected to be in uniform when the Toros (7-16) are host to Colorado (15-7) Wednesday at 11 a.m. CT. Merritt will make his 66ers (10-14) debut at home on Friday against Sioux Falls (15-9).
