OAKLAND -- Following Wednesday's heartbreaking 5-4 loss to the A's, rookie catcher J.P. Arencibia was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas, presumably to make room for catcher John Buck, who is eligible to be reinstated from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.

Buck looks like he's feeling no ill effects from his lacerated right thumb, as he belted two home runs and drove in six runs on Tuesday for Double-A New Hampshire.

But Arencibia was understandably solemn on Wednesday, as he sat at his locker and discussed his first big league stint.

"The experience has been great," Arencibia said. "Being around these guys makes it really tough for me to leave more, just because I really enjoyed myself. Everyone's treated me great, I just want to get back as fast as possible."

In Arencibia's final at-bat Wednesday, he delivered an RBI single during Toronto's game-tying three-run rally in the top of the ninth. But Casey Janssen would give up a walk-off RBI single to Cliff Pennington in the bottom of the frame.

It was Arencibia's Major League debut on Aug. 7, when he went 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs, that really put him on the map.

"That day is something that no one can ever take away from me," Arencibia said.

Arencibia batted .250 (5-for-20) in five contests with Toronto. He has to be considered a lock to rejoin the Blue Jays once rosters expand to 40 men on Sept. 1.
