Last Week

The Marlies were back in action twice this past weekend, playing both games within the North Division with playoff implications riding high. First was a visit to Rochester and the Blue Cross Arena. Despite being down 3- 0 early in the second period, the Marlies would battle back and tie the game before the period came to a close. Greg McKegg opened the scoring, while Byron Froese collected two goals in the period, including a shorthanded effort. The game would need extra time to come to a conclusion and in overtime it would be Greg McKegg striking again, collecting his second of the game and 13th goal of the season. With the win the Marlies were two points behind their next opponents; the Adirondack Flames. The Marlies would travel to Glens Falls Civic Center for a matchup against the Flames on Saturday night, looking to tie them in the standings. The two teams would engage in a back and forth affair with chances on both ends, playing to a 2-2 tie after 40 minutes. The third period would see the Marlies explode; scoring three goals in 2:12 with goals from Brendan Mikkelson, Andrew MacWilliam and Brendan Leipsic. Antoine Bibeau closed the door in the third making 11 saves, adding to his total of 36 for the game. This past weekend also saw the Marlies reacquire TJ Brennan from Chicago (Rockford) in exchange for Spencer Abbott.
