
Toronto FC Send Matt Hedges to Austin FC in Exchange for GAM

Toronto FC announced today the club has sent defender Matt Hedges to Austin FC in exchange for up to $475,000 General Allocation Money (GAM) -- $375,000 in 2024 GAM and up to an additional conditional $100,000 in 2025 GAM based on the player's roster status on January 1, 2024.
"We'd like to thank Matt for his efforts during the 2023 season," said Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez. "After a comprehensive discussion, Matt felt it was in the best interest of his family to facilitate a move back to the U.S. and we fully supported his decision. We wish Matt and his family the best for the remainder of the 2023 season and beyond."
Hedges, 33, made 14 appearances for Toronto FC since joining the club as a free agent in December 2022, including his debut against D.C. United on February 25, 2023. Prior to his time with TFC, Hedges spent 11 seasons with FC Dallas, where he made a combined 349 appearances in all competitions (MLS regular season, MLS Cup Playoffs, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and Concacaf Champions League). The Carmel, Indiana native served as the club captain for eight seasons and was instrumental in leading the team into the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
TRANSACTION: Toronto FC acquire up to $475,000 in GAM from Austin FC in exchange for defender Matt Hedges; $375,000 in 2024 and up to an additional conditional $100,000 in 2025 GAM.
