Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville SC's 2023 Leagues Cup journey continues at 7:30 p.m. CT on Thursday at GEODIS Park with its second and final group stage match against Liga MX's Toluca. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will mark the first competitive outing against a club outside the United States/Canada in Nashville SC history.
Thursday's match will also feature a special moment in club history as newly-signed Designated Player Sam Surridge will be introduced to the Nashville fans at the match. Nashville SC announced the signing of Surridge from English Premier League side Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. Learn more about the new DP signing here.
Fans can purchase tickets at www.NashvilleSC.com/Tickets or follow the action on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and on radio on 104.5 The Zone.
Today, Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith and players Dax McCarty and Walker Zimmerman discussed with media the historic soccer rivalry between the U.S. and Mexico and how that will play out in the club's match against Toluca on Thursday. Additionally, they spoke about the club's new Designated Player Sam Surridge and his addition to the locker room. Access to this footage can be found in the media resources section below.
Nashville SC can claim the top spot in the Central 4 group and a guaranteed home match in the Leagues Cup Round of 32 with a win of any kind against Toluca on Thursday. A draw/shootout loss would guarantee that Nashville SC advances to the knockout stage, with the final group standings determined by next Monday's match between Colorado and Toluca.
The Boys in Gold are coming off a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids in the first match of Leagues Club group play on Sunday. Less than two minutes after coming onto the pitch as a second half substitution, Hany Mukhtar scored the opening goal in the 57th minute before assisting Jacob Shaffelburg for the eventual match-winner 10 minutes later.
