
Toronto FC Selects Bono, Simonin and Thomas in 2015 MLS SuperDraft

Toronto FC announced Thursday that the club selected goalkeeper Alex Bono (6th Overall) along with defenders Clement Simonin (9th Overall) and Skylar Thomas (11th Overall) in the First Round and defender Wesley Charpie (29th Overall) and forward Edwin Rivas ( 37th Overall) in the Second Round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.
Bono, 20, a Generation adidas player spent the last three seasons at Syracuse University. He becomes the first MLS draftee to be called into national team prior to the SuperDraft. He appeared and started in 59 matches, with a record of 39-17-3 and 30 clean sheets for the Orange. In 2014, Bono was named to the NSCAA All-America First Team, and NSCAA All-South Region Team. He also received 2014 ACC Defensive Player of the Year honours. He set Syracuse single-season records for goals-against average (0.55), shutouts, and ranked seventh in the NCAA in both GAA and save percentage (.848). Bono was a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and during his collegiate career he was voted to the Big East All-Rookie Team and also won the 2012-13 'Cuse Award for Male Rookie of the Year.
Simonin, 23, split time between Lander University and North Carolina State University. With the Lander Bearcats he appeared in 32 career matches, registering two goals and three assists. He was named Second team All-American, was a Two-time NSCAA All-Southeast Region and All-Peach Belt Conference team performer. He then transferred to NC State and appeared in 24 career matches registering four goals and three assists for the Wolfpack.
Thomas, 21, spent the last four seasons at Syracuse University. He appeared and started in 56 matches, while scoring eight goals and adding one assist. In 2014, he was named All-ACC Second Team and NSCAA All-South Region Second Team.
Charpie, 22, spent the last four seasons at the University of South Florida. He appeared in 81 matches, registering five goals and 21 assists for the Bulls. During his collegiate career he earned NSCAA East All-Region First Team, All-American Athletic Conference First Team, American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team and American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
Rivas, 23, spent the last four seasons at California State University, Northridge. He appeared in 78 matches, starting in 72, registering 17 goals and 10 assists for the Matadors. He was named All-Big West First Team (2012) and All-Big West Second Team (2013).
