Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Worcester, MA- The Worcester Tornadoes have teamed up with Becker College for the summer to provide Tornadoes players with an on campus residence that will allow a majority of the team to reside together.
"It's just another fantastic example of a leading Worcester institution stepping up in support of the Tornadoes," said Todd Marlin, General Manager. "This gives our players a great opportunity to bond off the field and will in turn aid them on the field."
"We are honored, at Becker, to preserve a piece of baseball history," said Dr. Ken Zirkle, president of Becker College, speaking of Becker's location on the former Worcester Agricultural Fairgrounds, where the first perfect game in professional baseball was pitched by J. Lee Richmond in 1880. "I read recently that the commemorative marker on our Worcester campus provided the inspiration to bring professional baseball to the City. We are pleased that Tornadoes players will be calling this historic ground their summer home," Zirkle said.
"This is the perfect, win-win partnership between business and higher education. The Becker community is proud to partner with Worcester and the Tornadoes to provide a local home for members of the team," said Timonthy Loew, director of business operations at Becker.
The Tornadoes would also like to recognize the efforts of team friend Paul Cantiani who helped establish this setup at Becker College.
