New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ: The New Jersey Jackals bounced back nicely from a Monday night shutout, with arguably their best all-around performance of the season. Sparked by early runs to take the lead, and late runs as insurance, they topped Les Capitales 8-3, setting up for the rubber match on Wednesday evening.

Following a scoreless first inning, the Jackals tagged Quebec starter Keith Dunn for a pair of runs in the second. Ricardo Cordova singled home Bill Peavey and a Guillermo Reyes sacrifice fly scored Jason Belcher.

Quebec cut into New Jerseys 1-0 lead in the half of the third, with Isaac Pavlik pitching. Geofrey Tomlinsons single into left field scored Benoit Emond, making it a 2-1 ballgame.

The Jackals exploded in the sixth, scoring five runs to extend their lead, including RBIs by Wilton Veras, Jason Belcher and Ricardo Cordova. But Quebec would answer with two runs of their own. Mathieu Bergerons double scored two, cutting the New Jersey lead to 5-3.

New Jersey added three more runs to their total, with one in the seventh, and two in the eighth. Jason Tuttle reached on a fielders choice in the seventh, allowing Joe Mihalics to score, while Bill Peavey crushed his first homerun of the year in the eighth, a solo shot, and Mihalics notched an RBI on a double. Through eight innings, the Jackals lead 8-3, and thats the way the ballgame would end.

Isaac Pavlik made a strong showing for the Jackals, in his first start of the season. He earned the victory.

The loss went to Quebecs Keith Dunn, with his record falling to 0-2 on the season.
