Davilla returns; Spirit sweep weekly honors
May 30, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release
Retirement was short-lived for Spirit first baseman Vic Davilla. One game into the season, the all-star slugger stepped back onto the playing field to serve as player coach for the 2006 team.
"We're excited to have Vic back in our lineup. He's been a professional in every sense of the word and I'm happy to have him playing another season of North Shore Spirit baseball," said Spirit owner Nick Lopardo.
Davilla made quite a dramatic return to the lineup, powering his way to CanAm League "Batter of the Week" honors. In the three games since his return, Davilla hit .467 with a home run and six RBIs. Davilla provided plenty of pop to the lineup with a .733 slugging percentage.
With Davilla providing the offensive heroics for the Spirit, it was Ryan Bicondoa who kept the other team's offense in check in the opening week of the season. In his first start of 2006, Bicondoa struck out eight batters and allowed just one unearned run in seven innings of work. The stellar performance garnered him CanAm League "Pitcher of the Week" honors.
Bicondoa was named CanAm league "Pitcher of the Week" twice during the 2005 season.
