July 22, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Danny Bomback went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in, pacing the Pittsfield Colonials to a 6-3 victory at the HIP Friday night. Patrick Moran pitched 6.2 innings to earn the victory, allowing just two unearned runs on five hits, three walks (one intentional) and 10 strikeouts.
The Tornadoes took a 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth with an unearned run on a Nick Salotti sacrifice fly (plating Abraham Nunez). The Colonials scored their first run the same way in the next half inning, with Bomback doing the damage. Pittsfield followed with another run on a throwing error by Alex Trezza with Quentin Davis on third and never looked back.
Nunez scored again after leading off the sixth with a walk on a Trezza RBI double. The Tornadoes' final run came in the ninth, when a Chase Fontaine sacrifice fly sent Ryan Crespi home.
Chris Rubio pitched 2.1 innings of relief and earned the save for the Colonials, allowing a couple of hits and one (earned) run.
In the loss, Shawn Gilblair pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) and striking out eight. Seven Pittsfield batters picked up hits against Worcester's number three starter, and he walked one.
Nick Serino struck out the side in his only inning (the seventh), serving up a homer to Jerod Edmondson to give the Colonials a 4-2 advantage. Sean Gregory hurled a scoreless eighth, and Albert Ayala gave up a couple of runs on an third of an inning in the ninth. Matt McDonald came on for the final two outs.
Ryan Lobban will make his first home start of 2011 on Saturday night, and the Tornadoes welcome super heroes (real and fake, costumed and as their alter egoes) to the HIP. The gates open at 6:00pm for a 7:05 first pitch.
