WORCESTER, MA - Pat Moran struck out a career high 10 batters and did not allow an earned run over 6.2 innings of work as the Pittsfield Colonials opened up a weekend series with a 6-3 win over the Worcester Tornadoes.

Trailing 1-0 thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nick Salotti in the fourth, the Colonials grabbed their first lead of the game in the fifth inning. With one out, Jermel Lomack singled. Lomack would move to third when Quentin Davis followed with a single of his own. Davis promptly stole second. Danny Bomback stepped up and drove a sac fly to center to score Lomack and move Davis to third, tying the game at 1-1. A second run came in one pitch later when after a called strike, Worcester catcher Alex Trezza overthrew a ball to third base, allowing Davis to come in for a 2-1 Colonials lead.

Pittsfield would extend the lead in the sixth when after Billy Mottram led off the inning with a walk, Angel Molina doubled to right, scoring Mottram and making it a 3-1 Colonials lead. Worcester got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a double by Trezza to score Abraham Nunez and slice the lead to a single run.

The Colonials pushed it back to a two-run lead in the seventh when Jerod Edmondson hit his sixth homerun of the season to extend the lead to 4-2. Pittsfield rounded out their scoring in the ninth on a fielder's choice by Bomback scoring Lomack and a sacrifice fly by Molina to score Davis to make it 6-2. A Chase Fontaine sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scored Ryan Crespi to create the final margin.

Moran (6-3) earned the victory for the Colonials with a career-high 10 strikeouts. He allowed five hits and walked two over 6.2 innings while not giving up an earned run. Chris Rubio tossed a 2.1 innings for his first save. Shawn Gilblair (2-4) took the loss for Worcester despite striking out eight over six innings.
