Game Notes: Worcester looks to extend their three game winning streak tonight against the Skyhawks, sending righty Justin Knoff to the hill. He will be making his 10th start of the season and 3rd against Sussex. He has three quality starts and has gone eight innings in two of his starts. Both of those were home starts, once against New Jersey and once against Pittsfield. In the month of August, Knoff was 1-3 with a 5.13 ERA. So far this season against Sussex, he is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA. He has allowed just seven hits, struck out eight, and walked three in eleven innings pitched. Opposing him will be 5'11" righty Tim Stringer. The New Jersey native had a rough August, going 0-3 with a 7.83 ERA in five starts. His best start of the season came back on July 17th against the Tornadoes, getting the win with six shutout innings as the Skyhawks won 2-1. He surrendered just three hits and struck out four in the quality start. Against Worcester this season, Stringer is 2-2 with a 6.23 ERA in four starts. He has struck out 19 Tornadoes on the season, including a season high nine in his first start against them on June 5th. He also has given up 22 hits and walked 18 batters in 21 and two-thirds innings pitched.

Last Night: Worcester beat the Sussex Skyhawks 6-1, putting them into a tie for the last playoff spot with the New Jersey Jackals. Sussex got on the board first, getting a solo homerun from Nick Giarraputo in the top of the second. After facing the minimum of nine batters, Worcester finally got to starter Mike Vicaro, getting two runs in the bottom of the fourth from a Nick Salotti two run homer, his second in two games. Billy Cather would then get a two run homer in the bottom of the fifth to put Worcester ahead 4-1. In the sixth, Danny Santiesteban's sacrifice fly gave the Tornadoes a 5-1 lead. They would tack on another in the eighth with Mark Minicozzi scoring on a wild pitch by Jared Locke. Tornadoes starter John Kelly had one of his best starts of the season, getting a season high 12 strikeouts in seven innings of work. He walked just 1 Skyhawk batter, gave up five hits, and surrendered just one run. Shawn Gilblair pitched the final two innings to finish the game. He struck out two, giving the Tornadoes a team total of 14 strikeouts. Offensively for the Tornadoes, Salotti was 2-for-3 with a homerun. Sussex manager Ed Ott was ejected in the first inning and Kraig Binick was ejected in the middle of eighth, both for arguing balls and strikes.
