
Colonials Clinch Playoff Berth, Beat Jackals 7-5

Pittsfield Colonials News Release
The Pittsfield Colonials clinched a playoff berth by beating the New Jersey Jackals 7-5 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday Night. With the win, the Colonials can finish no lower than fourth place in the overall Can-Am League standings, thus securing a spot in the 2010 playoffs.
Colonials' third baseman Jason Taylor (2-for-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI) blasted a pair of two-run homers to lead the Pittsfield offense, tying him with Dan Carte (1-for-5, RBI) for the team lead with 12. Designated hitter Donny Leon (1-for-3, 2B, RBI) chipped in with an RBI double for the winners.
Reliever Reymond Cruz (1-2) notched his first win of the season out of the bullpen, pitching three solid inning of long relief allowing one run while striking-out five batters. Colonials starting pitcher Jonny Venters lasted three-plus innings, giving-up three runs on seven hits. Closer Juan Padilla (15) notched his six consecutive save recording the final four outs of the game to secure the victory.
Jackals' starter Chris Vasami (3-1) took the loss in two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits. Reliever Edward Rodriguez conceded the final two Colonials runs over two innings out of the bullpen.
New Jersey designated hitter Carlos Sosa (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBIs) enjoyed a three hit night and knocked in a pair of runs for the Jackals while left fielder Jacob Butler (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) also drove in a pair. Centerfielder Adam Godwin (2-for-4, 3B, 2B) tripled and doubled in the losing effort.
The Colonials now head home to Wahconah Park in Pittsfield and will begin their regular season finale series with the Sussex Skyhawks with the first of four on Friday night at 7:05pm.
