Game Notes: Worcester, who is a half game out of the playoffs, turns to righty Chris Farley to break the team's three game losing streak. The Athol, MA native has turned it up in August since his last three starts of July, going 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA. He walked 14 and struck out 16 while giving up just 13 hits in 17 innings of work. His one win came against Pittsfield, going five innings and surrendering just one run in an 11-2 Tornadoes victory. So far Farley has faced Brockton three times this season, going 2-1 with a 4.05 ERA. His latest appearance against them was on July 10th here at the HIP, getting the win with seven innings and seven strikeouts while surrendering just four earned runs in a 12-5 win. He has given up just 10 hits to the Rox in twenty innings of work while striking out nine and walking twelve. Opposing Farley will be Rox righty Mike Smith, who has the league low in ERA with 2.94 and is tied for the league lead in wins with 11. He will be making his 18th start of the season and 5th start against Worcester. He has had 12 quality starts and hasn't lost a game since July 4th. In that stretch of nine starts, he is 7-0 with a 2.66 ERA. On the season, Smith has struck out an even 100 batters while walking only 42. In four starts against Worcester, he is a perfect 4-0 with a 1.98 ERA, striking out 30 while walking eight. One of those four wins was a 3-1 complete game victory for Smith, where the one run he gave up was unearned.

Last Night: Worcester lost an important game to the Brockton Rox 10-2. With the loss and a New Jersey Jackals win, the Tornadoes fell a half game out of a playoff spot. Brockton got an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, getting a two RBI single from Keith Brachold. Worcester got one run back in the bottom of the frame thanks to a Mark Minicozzi triple. Brockton got another run in the top of the third thanks a Worcester error and the Rox would never look back. The Tornadoes did get another run in the bottom of the third with a Nick Salotti sacrifice fly, but the Rox would score once in the fifth, five times in the seventh, and once more in the eighth while the Worcester offense could not muster another run. For Brockton, Keith Brachold was 3-for-5 with a homerun and four RBI's while Shawn Williams was 3-for-5 with two doubles and four runs scored. Offensively for the Tornadoes, Mark Minicozzi was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI while the six through nine batters went a combined 0-for-15. Justin Knoff got the loss for Worcester, going six and a third innings, allowing seven runs to score (five earned), and giving up nine hits while striking out eight. Jimmer Kennedy got the win for the Rox, pitching three shutout and hitless innings of relief where he only allowed one batter to reach base safely on a walk.

Tornadoes:

Offense: Mark Minicozzi leads the team with a .377 on base percentage and is tied with Billy Cather for the team lead in average with .305. Minicozzi's 49 RBI's is good for second on the team. Chris Colabello leads the team with 13 homeruns and 59 RBI's and is third on the team with a .301 average. Stantrel Smith leads the team with 14 stolen bases and three triples while Nick Salotti leads the team with 20 doubles.

Pitching: Shawn Gilblair has the team low in ERA with 2.12, followed closely by Rick Asadoorian with 2.18. Albert Ayala has the team low in average against with .213. Opponents are hitting .262 and have an on base percentage of .376 against tonight's starter Chris Farley.
