
Tornadoes Drop Season Opener in Brockton, 3-1

First baseman Melvin Falu had three hits in four at-bats and a pair of RBI to lead Brockton to a 3-1 win against Worcester. Brockton scored first in the second inning when Chris Grossman slammed a home run, and Falu batted in two more Rox runs the third and fifth innings, knocking Dominic Ramos in, each time with a single. Winning pitcher Mike Smith - now 1-0 this season - allowed five hits and one run in five innings pitched.
Designated hitter Nick Salotti registered two hits in four at-bats to lead Worcester, but the Tornadoes were only able to post one run in the game. Boomer Blanchard bunted his way on, and Alex Nunez doubled him home in the fifth.
The Tornadoes loaded the bases with two outs in the second but couldn't score, and also left two runners in scoring position in the eighth. Pitcher Zach Zeurcher registered his first loss of the season, allowing nine hits, three runs, and striking out four in 5.1 innings pitched.
