June 1, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The Tornadoes scored double-digit runs for the second game in a row, defeating the New York Federals 11-5 on Baseball in Education Day Wednesday morning. One day after breaking the 20-run barrier, Worcester had four multiple-run innings and scored the last six runs of the game.

Matt Smith evened his record at 1-1 by picking up the W, tossing five-plus innings, striking out seven and allowing five runs on eight hits. The loss was charged to Greg Byron, who allowed three runs on five hits in his two innings of work.

The Federals took a 1-0 lead in the first on Eddie Lantigua's RBI single, plating Stephen Pinto (who tripled to lead off the game). The Tornadoes scored twice in the bottom half of the inning, with Alex Fernandez and Nick Salotti each knocking in a run. Worcester added three more runs in the fourth one night after a 14-run fourth.

Lantigua's three-run homer was part of a four-run rally for New York, tying the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth, but the Tornadoes took the lead back for good in the bottom half when Ryan Crespi singled Boomer Blanchard in. Worcester added two more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to seal the 11-5 victory.

Four Tornadoes batters ended the game with multiple hits. The eighth and ninth hitters Blanchard and Crespi combined for a 3-for-4 afternoon with four walks, a hit batter, a double, a stolen base, six runs scored, and one run knocked in.

The Tornadoes will have their second 11:05am game in a row on Thursday, when the Brockton Rox come to town for the first match-up in a four-game set. The Rox swept the Tornadoes in the first four games of the season at Campanelli Stadium.
