June 1, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Pittsfield Colonials News Release
After being held to two runs in each of the previous two games, the Pittsfield Colonials scored seven runs in the final two innings Wednesday afternoon to upend the Rockland Boulders 7-2.
The Colonials trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Angel Molina led off with a double. Billy Mottram followed with a triple to score Molina and slice the Boulders lead to 2-1. Two batters later, Scott Knazek flared a ball over the drawn-in infield to score Mottram and tie the game at 2-2.
In the eighth, the Colonials once again got their leadoff man on as Jerod Edmondson reached on an error. After a Quentin Davis sacrifice bunt, Danny Bomback was intentionally walked to set up both a potential double play and a right versus right matchup between Angel Molina and Rockland pitcher, Kyle Wilson. The move backfired, as Molina ripped a single through the hole on the left side of the infield to bring home Edmondson and give Pittsfield a 3-2 lead.
That single opened up the floodgates for the Colonials. The Boulders once again tried to play the percentages and intentionally walked Billy Mottram to load the bases and set up a force at any base and a right on right matchup with Johnny Welch. Pittsfield bucked the odds once again as Welch walked to force in Bomback. Knazek followed with a sharp single through the middle to score Molina and Mottram and make it 6-2. Before the inning was over, Charlie Pagliarulo also delivered an RBI single to create the final margin of victory.
Rafael Lluberes (1-0) picked up the win going 1.2 innings of hitless, scoreless relief. David Qualben started and took a no-decision, despite pitching well for his second straight start. Qualben went 7.1 innings allowing six hits and two runs. Kyle Wilson (0-1) allowed all five eighth innings runs (three earned) in taking the loss for Rockland.
The Colonials wrapped up their season-opening homestand at 4-3 and now head out on the road for four games to take on the Quebec Capitales. Miguel Flores (0-0, 2.35) will start on Thursday for Pittsfield against Karl Gelinas (1-0, 2.57) for Les Capitales. Coverage on pittsfieldcolonials.comwill begin at 6:45 p.m. with the Pittsfield Colonials pregame show in front of a 7:05 first pitch from Stade Municipal.
