'Topes offense hits high gear in 14-8 win

Albuquerque scored in each of the first five innings including nine runs in the first three innings in route to a 14-8 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Thursday afternoon at Isotopes Park. The Isotopes (4-4) took three of four from the Sounds after losing three of four to begin the season.

Larry Sutton went four for four with four RBIs to lead the Isotopes 16 hit attack. Sutton started the scoring for Albuquerque in the first with a two out double, scoring Derek Wathan. Nashville jumped back ahead in the second with two runs off starter Scott Sanders. In the bottom of the frame, the Isotopes put together their biggest inning of the season, scoring five runs on four hits, including Matt Padgett's second homer of the season. Sutton's second double of the game finished off the inning as the Isotopes took a 6-2 lead. Albuquerque added three more in the third, a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to build a 12-7 lead. Chris Aguila hit his first homer of the season and Wilson Valdez recorded his second straight three-hit game for the offense. Matt Blank (1-0) earned the win, pitching two innings in relief.

The Isotopes (4-4) now welcome the Memphis Redbirds to town for the first of a four-game series, beginning tomorrow night at 7:11 PM. Mike Nannini will make his second start for the ‘Topes.
