
Portland Takes Series Finally

16 hits and 12 runs later, the Portland Beavers salvaged a victory in the series by defeating the Sidewinders 12-1 on Thursday night in front of 3,656 fans. RHP Chris Oxspring (1-0) earned the victory for the Beavers as they improved their record to 3-5. With the loss, Tucson drops to 6-2.
One star for Portland was LF Alex Fernandez as he finished the night 3-5 with 4 RBIs and a run scored. His 2-run shot in the 2nd gave Portland the lead that they would never relinquish. RF Xavier Nady also homered for the Beavers. His came in the 6th with a man on. It was one of his 4 hits as he finished 4-5 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs. CF Henri Stanley and SS Jose Nieves also contributed 3 hits for the Beavers.
RHP Brady Raggio (1-1) took his first loss of the season for the Sidewinders while pitching 5 innings, surrendering 4 ER on 7 hits. He stuck out 4 Portland batters as well. With only 3 hits, Tucson failed to continue their offensive surge that had propelled them to a 6-1 start.
The Sidewinders now hit the road for their first road trip of the season. Game one is tomorrow night at Tacoma with LHP Jon Cannon (0-0, 2.25) for Tucson facing LHP Matt Thornton (0-1, 15.75) of Tacoma. Tucson leads the season series 3-1. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
