CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Keyed by clutch pitching from Justin Topa and a three-run blast from Destin Hood, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, defeated the Corpus Christi Hooks 5-3 Monday at Whataburger Field.

BIG MOMENTS

* Topa tossed a career-high 7 2/3 innings, yielding three runs on six hits. He induced a bases-loaded double play to end the third inning and keep the Riders in the game. The twin killing marked the beginning of a stretch in which Topa retired 10 consecutive hitters and 13 of 14.

* Hood broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run shot to left-center field in the top of the sixth.

* Cole Wiper retired all four batters he faced to earn the save.

* Justin Topa: 7 2/3 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 5 K (W)

* Cole Wiper: 1 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K (S)

NEWS AND NOTES

* Hood has all five of his homers in the last 10 games, batting .313 in that stretch.

* Jose Cardona and Michael O'Neill each stole a base for the second day in a row. Through two games in this series, the Riders are 6-for-6 in swipes.
