Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Johan Mieses hit a walk-off, two-out grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat the Naturals, 10-6 on Monday night at Hammons Field.
The Naturals tied the game in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Corey Toups and took a 3-1 lead on a two-out, two-run single by Jecckson Flores in the fourth. After the Cardinals cut the lead down to a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, Anderson Miller extended the Naturals lead with a towering two-run home run to rightfield to make it a 5-2 game,
Right-hander, Jace Vines made his Double-A debut on Monday and kept the Cardinals to two runs over his first four inning. He left the game after surrendering a two-run homer to Jeremy Martinez in the fifth inning after four and two-third frames. The right-hander allowed four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks in the appearance.
Right-hander, Yunior Marte entered and got the final out of the fifth; but the Cardinals tied the game in the sixth inning at five. Marte left with a man on first and one out in the sixth when Walker Sheller induced an inning-ending double play to keep the scored tied at five.
Sheller worked two and two-third innings of perfect relief, forcing extra innings.
The Naturals garnered a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th inning on a two-out single by Nick Dini. But again, the Cardinals tied it up with a wild pitch by Bryan Brickhouse (0-3) setting up the heroics of Mieses in the last of the frame.
The series continues tomorrow with a 6:30 first pitch from Hammons Field. Left-hander, Emilio Ogando will get the ball for the Naturals in Game 3 against right-hander, Anthony Shew for Springfield.
