San Antonio Missions News Release
A six-run, sixth-inning rally broke open a tie game and lifted San Antonio to a 9-3 win over Midland Monday afternoon at Wolff Stadium.
After getting blanked in Sunday's series opener, the RockHounds started better Monday, plating a pair of first-inning runs against righty Jesse Scholtens courtesy of a Seth Brown RBI-single and a wild pitch.
San Antonio's 2-0 deficit did not last long thanks to the always reliable Ty France. The Missions third baseman, who homered in his first at-bat in the opener, repeated the feat Monday, tying the game with a two-run blast to left center. The long ball for France was his 14th of the season, tying a career high.
The score would remain knotted at two until the sixth when San Antonio's heart of the order imposed its will on Midland. The sixth started rather harmlessly for Seddon as a Peter Van Gansen single was sandwiched around two outs. However, Taylor Kohlwey (game-high three hits) kept the inning alive with a single to right. Seddon (4-6) was replaced with Corey Walter, who promptly walked Matthew Batten to load the bases.
That brought up Josh Naylor, who cleared the bases with a double to left. But the Missions were not done yet as France kept his RBI tour going with a two-bagger of his own, pushing the lead to 6-2. Austin Allen capped the uprising when he crushed a homer to right.
Batten put the Missions up 9-2 in the seventh with an RBI-single to right off Walter.
Tyler Ramirez capped the game's scoring in the eighth with a homer off Eric Yardley. Gerardo Reyes (1-1) got the win in relief for San Antonio.
San Antonio (13-10, 55-38) resumes its four-game series with Midland (6-18, 39-54) on AARP $2 Tuesday presented by KCWX. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. Jacob Nix (1-2, 1.95) will get the ball for the Missions, while the RockHounds counter with fellow righty Logan Shore (1-5, 5.23).
