Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-A month after the Waterloo Black Hawks acquired Chris Calnan during the first round of the USHL Entry Draft, the forward was taken again during the 2012 NHL Draft in Pittsburgh Saturday.

It was the Chicago Blackhawks choosing the 6-2, 187-pound forward from Boston with the 79th overall pick, midway through the third round.

Awareness of Calnan as an NHL prospect increased dramatically during the latter half of the 2011-2012 season. The forward moved from 94th in NHL Central Scouting's January midterm rankings to 69th in the final April grading. At Nobles and Greenough Prep last year, he averaged better than two points per game with 28 goals and 27 assists. Calnan's uncle is Jeremy Roenick, a former NHL All-Star for the Blackhawks and currently a commentator on NBC Sports Network.

The only Waterloo Black Hawk ever previously selected by Chicago was forward Jan-Mikael Juutilainen during the sixth round of the 2006 Draft.
