Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Vince Hinostroza climbed from a boarder line NHL Draft prospect at midseason to the 169th choice when his future professional rights were acquired Saturday during the event in Pittsburgh.

The Bartlett, Illinois native was chosen by his hometown Chicago Black Hawks with the 18th selection of the sixth round. Earlier in the day, Chicago chose Waterloo prospect Chris Calnan in the third round. This is the first time an NHL team has selected two players with ties to the Waterloo Black Hawks since the New York Rangers snagged twin brothers Chris and Peter Ferraro in 1992.

"There are many aspects of Vinny's game which he has built on during his time in the USHL," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "Coming back for another season in Waterloo, we need him to have a third year like the ones Craig Smith and Brock Montpetit enjoyed a few seasons ago."

Hinostroza came to the Black Hawks via the fourth overall pick during the 2010 USHL Futures Draft already in possession of a commitment to Notre Dame. As a rookie, he delivered 22 points in 50 contests. Last winter, Hinostroza doubled that total finishing second on the squad with 44 points and also second on the team in goals with 20. Meanwhile, he improved his plus-minus mark from -1 to +11 season-over-season, tying him for the top mark among Black Hawks forwards. Hinostroza was one of four Black Hawks to participate in the World Junior A Challenge last November and also skated in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament during August of 2011.

No Waterloo player has yet gone on to play in the NHL for the Chicago Blackhawks.
