Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Before arriving in Waterloo three years ago, analysts were already speculating on where defenseman Nick Ebert might be drafted in 2012. The answer came Saturday when the L.A. Kings called Ebert's name.

Ebert, a 5-11, 200-pound blue liner, was selected with the final pick of the draft, 211th overall.

As a New Jersey high school freshman in 2008-2009, Ebert was considered one of the best hockey players in the state. He came to the Hawks USHL-ready as a 15-year-old in 2009-2010. Ebert was fourth among Waterloo defensemen that year with an even plus-minus rating and third in blue line points at 18. A member of the Windsor Spitfires the last two years, the 96th ranked player in NHL Central Scouting's final grid notched 80 points in 130 Ontario Hockey League regular season contests.

The Stanley Cup champion Kings previously chose Waterloo forwards in successive drafts, picking David Meckler in 2006 and Josh Turnbull in 2007. Forward Jason Blake made his NHL debut for L.A. in 1999.
