WALDORF, Md. - The Sugar Land Skeeters posted their second win in their last nine games with a 5-3 victory over Southern Maryland on the road at Regency Furniture Stadium in front of 5,815 fans. The win improves the Skeeters' record to 9-13 in the second half and 45-47 overall.

Just like the night before, Sugar Land was able to strike early against Southern Maryland. Amadeo Zazueta reached on a one-out single to center before Chris Wallace launched his 13th-home run of the season to stake Sugar Land to a 2-0 advantage. Since June 30, Wallace has an Atlantic League-high seven long balls to go along with 22 RBI in 24 games.

Unlike the night before, however, the Skeeters were able to maintain the offensive momentum, striking for an additional run in the second. Patrick Palmeiro worked a walk to open the inning and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Renny Osuna. Denny Almonte singled into center to move Palmeiro to third. After Almonte was thrown out trying to steal second, Jeff Dominguez singled to plate Palmeiro and increase the lead to 3-0.

The Blue Crabs managed to get a run back in the bottom of the second with a pair of doubles. Jovan Rosa opened the inning with a ground rule double off Derek Blacksher before a one-out double to center off the bat of Craig Maddox brought the run home to move the score to 3-1.

Sugar Land increased the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth thanks to an error at second. Osuna poked a one-out single into center before Almonte reached on an error. Dominguez drove in his second run of the game with a double to center, increasing the Skeeters lead to 4-1.

The Skeeters manufactured a run in the top of the sixth. Zazueta reached on an infield single and stole second to move into scoring position. Wallace plated Sugar Land's shortstop with a base-knock into center, inflating the cushion to 5-1

Southern Maryland rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to close the gap. Casey Stevenson singled to center off Ramon Delgado with one out and moved up to second on a wild pitch. Zach Wilson followed with a single into center to put runners on the corners before Jake Opitz pushed in a run with a double to right. Rosa singled back to Delgado on the mound to score the second run and trim the score to 5-3.

Derrick Loop earned the four-out save, stranding a baserunner in the bottom of the eighth. It was his second-straight save of longer than 1.0 innings.
