
Southern Maryland Falls to Sugar Land in Game Two

(Waldorf, MD)--- Southern Maryland came into tonight's ballgame having won six in a row against Sugar Land, but had the winning streak snapped as they fell tonight to the Skeeters by the final of 5-3.
For the second consecutive night, Southern Maryland fell down early as the Skeeters scored two runs in the top of the first. Amadeo Zazueta singled to center. The next hitter Chris Wallace ripped a two run homerun over the wall in center for his league leading 13th homerun of the year to make it 2-0. In the top of the second the Skeeters added another run on the board on a Jeff Dominguez single to center to score Patrick Palmeiro to make it 3-0.
Southern Maryland tacked on a run in the bottom of the second. After Jovan Rosa doubled, Craig Maddox walked to the plate two batters later and ripped a double to right center to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
Former Blue Crab Renny Osuna began a quick for rally for Sugar Land in the top of the fourth with a single to center. Two batters later, with two runners on base, Jeff Dominguez ripped a double off the wall in center field to score Osuna to bring the Skeeters lead to 4-1. In the top of the sixth, Amadeo Zazueta scored on a Chris Wallace's RBI single. It was Chris' third RBI of the night.
With the score at 5-1 Skeeters lead, Southern Maryland attempted to chip away at the lead. Ramon Delgado came out of the bullpen to pitch for Sugar Land. With one out, Casey Stevenson, and Zach Wilson both singled to put two runners on base. Jake Opitz then ripped a double down the right field line to score Stevenson to make it 5-2. The next hitter Jovan Rosa drove in Wilson with an infield single. The rally would end for Southern Maryland two batters later on a Craig Maddox fly out to left field.
RHP Derek Blacksher picked up the win, going five innings, allowing a run on five hits, while striking out seven. LHP Wade Korpi took the loss, going 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on hits. The Skeeters combination of Zazueta, Wallace, and Young went a combined 6-13 at the plate on the evening.
Game three of the series will take place tomorrow at Regency Furniture Stadium. The first pitch is set for 2:05 P.M. RHP Josh Geer (4-3, 3.61) will throw for Sugar Land. RHP Daryl Thompson (3-2, 2.74) will start for Southern Maryland.
