York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution saw their seven-game winning streak against the Camden Riversharks come to an end, falling 6-5 on Saturday evening in front of 4,681 fans at Campbell's Field. The Revs slip to 12-10 in the second half and will look to gain the leg up in the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m.

Both starting pitchers breezed through the first three innings as Camden lefty Bill Murphy and York right-hander Shawn Hill traded goose eggs.

The Revs opened the scoring with a three-run rally in the top of the fourth. Wilson Valdez ignited things with an infield single, and Eric Patterson followed with a double to right-center. Telvin Nash then drove a two-run double to the gap in left-center and advanced to third on the throw home. Nash later scored on a sac fly to deep right-center by Andres Perez for a 3-0 lead.

Hill retired his first 10 batters and had struck out the side in a dominant third inning, but seemingly out of nowhere, the Riversharks erupted for six runs in their half of the fourth. Similar to the top half, the rally began with an infield single as Brandon Chaves reached with one out. Paddy Matera then fought his way on with a walk, and Carlos Guzman ripped an RBI single up the middle for the first run. Ryan Strieby kept the rally going, finding the hole with a single to left to load the bases. Mike Costanzo smashed a two-run single into right-center, and Zach MacPhee followed with an RBI groundout. With two outs, the bottom of the order made the inning even bigger as Mike Kerns drove an RBI double to left-center and Michael Rockett punched an RBI single to center, giving Camden a sudden 6-3 lead.

The Revs battled back with two runs in the sixth. Patterson got things started with a leadoff walk and Nash followed with a double down the left field line. Bryan Pounds drove in the first run on a sac fly to center, and Perez then cashed in with an RBI double to deep right-center, bringing the Revs within a run. Murphy would strand the tying run at second, however, striking out Yeicok Calderon and retiring Salvador Paniagua on a deep fly out toward the right field corner on a superb running grab by Daniel Rockett.

Valdez legged out a hustle double against Camden reliever T.J. Chism with two outs in the seventh, but the tying run was stranded at second for the second straight inning as Chism induced a pop fly from Patterson to end the inning.

Rob Bryson allowed nothing after a leadoff walk to Nash in the eighth, and closer Matt Gorgen notched his 18th save with a perfect ninth, receiving help from Daniel Rockett who had moved to left field and made a great sliding grab along the line, denying Jose Constanza on an opposite field drive for the final out.

Murphy (3-11) avenged a loss in York the previous weekend, earning the win despite allowing all five runs over six innings.

Hill (3-8) suffered the loss, victimized by the big fourth inning. It was Hill's first loss since June 18 as the Revs had won four of his previous five starts.

York's bullpen was outstanding in keeping the game close. Edward Paredes, Tony Pena, Luis Perdomo, and Beau Vaughan all logged scoreless innings. Perdomo escaped a bases loaded jam in the seventh while Vaughan struck out the side in order in the eighth.

Revs lefty Frank Gailey (2-2, 2.08) faces Camden right-hander Eric Smith (1-5, 4.44) on Sunday afternoon. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 1:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.

Notes: The Revs fall to 9-3 against Camden this season. It is the ninth straight meeting between the two teams that has been decided by three runs or fewer and the eighth of those nine to be decided by two runs or fewer. It is the seventh time in the last eight games overall for the Revs that the margin has been decided by two runs or fewer; the Revs are now 6-2 in those eight games.
