SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes defender Tommy Thompson underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum and partially torn rotator cuff on Wednesday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Richard Gayle at Sutter Health.

The injury was sustained during the team's first match of the 2021 season and Thompson is expected to return to the training field in three months.

Thompson, 26, was the Quakes' first-ever Homegrown Player signing in 2014 and has since made 157 appearances, tallying four goals and nine assists. Thompson made 12 starts in 14 total appearances in 2021.
