Toledo Downs Kalamazoo in a Shootout 4-3

(Kalamazoo, MI)- Alec Richards made 41 saves to lead the Walleye to 4-3 shootout win in Kalamazoo. Toledo is 28-31-2-4 on the season and 14-17-2-1 away from home.

Toledo would strike first with a power play goal from Todd Griffith at 11:25 of the first period. Kyle Page drew the lone assist on the 17th goal of the season from Griffith. Toledo would extend the lead to 2-0 at 13:05 of the first when Harrison Reed beat Kalamazoo goaltender Riley Gill with a wrist shot. Joey Martin and Mike Thomas assisted on the 16th goal of the year from Reed.

"I love how we have played this year in this building," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "We play our best when we get very physical and we did that tonight." The Walleye would make it 3-0 at 8:59 of the second period when Andrej Nestrasil scored his 7th goal of the season. Todd Griffith and Derek Brochu collected the assists on that goal. The two teams combined for four fights in the second period. The Wings would get on the board with a late goal from Dwight Helminen. The Wings would collect two third period goals to tie the game at three. In the shootout, Joey scored his team leading sixth shootout goal and Alec Richards stopped all five shooters to collect the win. Walleye Notes: Walleye goaltender Alec Richards finished with 41 saves and has a record of 8-7-0-1 on the season. Richards has stopped 16 of 19 shooters in shootouts this season. Forward Todd Griffith is on a three game point streak with 2 goals and 3 assists. Toledo's power play goal in the first snapped a 0-18 slump.
