Toivonen leads Bruins to first win

The Providence Bruins captured their first win of the 2004-05 season, as they wrapped up a three-game weekend by skating past the Springfield Falcons, 4-0, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday evening. The Black and Gold had key work from its special teams, scoring three power play goals, and killing off eight Springfield power plays. The Bruins are now 1-1-0-1 (3 points), putting them in fourth place in the Atlantic Division standings.

Bruins goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped all 24 shots he faced to get his first win of the season, his third career shutout. The 20-year-old native of Kalvola, Finland is 1-1-0 in his first two games.

Providence left wing Martin Samuelsson scored his second goal of the season at 2:16 of the first period, a tally that proved to be the game-winner. Left wing Andy Hilbert notched his second goal of the season, and in as many nights, while defenseman Milan Jurcina posted his first of the year. Right wing Yorick Treille rounded out the scoring with his third goal in the last two nights.

Bruin center Brad Boyes continued his torrid start to the year, earning three assists. Boyes racked up points in all three games this weekend, posting 1-5-6 totals. Hilbert (2-2-4) and defenseman Pat Aufiero (1-2-3) also had points in all three games.

The Bruins return to action on Friday, October 22, when they host the Lowell Lock Monsters at 7:05 p.m. They also host the Worcester IceCats on Sunday, October 24 at 4:05 p.m.
