Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs remained unbeaten in regulation time this season as they edged the visiting Manitoba Moose in front of a crowd of 6,422 on Sunday afternoon. The two teams would exchange goals seven times before the day was over.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at the 7:28 mark of the first period on a shorthanded effort by forward Chris Higgins. Higgins, on a 2-on-1 with fellow penalty-killer Tomas Plekanec, put the puck past Manitoba goalie Wade Flaherty on the short side. The goal was unassisted.
Manitoba then evened the score just one second after a penalty to Bulldogs' forward Duncan Milroy expired. The goal, which came at 13:08, was stuffed into the net from the doorstep by Moose forward Jason King, who leads the AHL with seven goals in just four games.
Before the period would end, Hamilton would go ahead 2-1 as Corey Locke netted his first career professional goal. Defenceman Trevor Daley, doing his best impression of Paul Coffey, carried the puck into Manitoba's zone and fed a perfect pass over to Locke who fired a shot into the top corner.
Just 37 seconds after Manitoba tied the game on a goal by Jeff Heerema, the Bulldogs went ahead for the third time in the game.
Jonathan Ferland took a pass down low from Marc-Andre Thinel and converted a wrap-around for his first goal of the season. The goal came at the 7:49 mark of the second period.
Once again, Manitoba evened the score as defenceman Nolan Baumgartner put a wrist shot from the point past Bulldogs goalie Yann Danis. The goal came on the powerplay.
The Bulldogs would rally once again, scoring what would be the game-winner on the power-play. Forward Corey Locke was controlling the man advantage from the corner when he fed Duncan Milroy at the edge of the crease. Milroy redirected the pass then got his own rebound for his first goal of the season. The goal came at the 7:15 mark of the third period.
Earning the win in the Bulldogs net was goalie Yann Danis who put aside 33 of 36 Manitoba shots. Wade Flaherty stopped 25 of 29 in a losing cause for the Moose.
The Bulldogs' next action will take place on Friday, October 22nd when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Phantoms at the Wachovia Center. Bulldogs fans can listen to Derek Wills call the action live beginning at 6:45pm at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com.
