Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Hartford, Conn - Michael Toglia and Brenton Doyle both hit solo home runs and Hartford's pitching did the rest in a 4-0 win over the Reading Fightin' Phils on Tuesday night at Dunkin Donuts Park. The Yard Goats' 29-17 start is tied for their best through 46 games since the team's inaugural year in 2016.

Coming into Tuesday's game, Hartford was 16-3 on the year when scoring first. In the top of the first inning, starter Noah Gotsis used a strike 'em out, throw 'em out double play to face the minimum. Following back-to-back strikeouts in the bottom of the frame, Toglia rocketed a 1-0 fastball just over the fence in left to put Hartford ahead 1-0.

In the second, centerfielder Daniel Montano and catcher Willie MacIver ripped back-to-back singles up the middle. Daniel Cope followed with a grounder to third, but the turn at second was wide of the bag, allowing Montano to come home and Cope to advance to second. Isaac Collins promptly laced a double to left to score Cope and put Hartford ahead 3-0.

After facing just 10 batters in the first three innings, Gotsis surrendered back-to-back walks with one out in the fourth. The right-hander then induced a groundout to first that moved the runners to second and third. Following his third walk of the inning, Gotsis stranded the bases loaded by getting left fielder Jack Conley to fly out to right.

Gotsis struck out three and allowed just two hits over five innings, notching his first-career Double-A win. Fineas Del Bonta-Smith struck out five batters in a hitless relief outing. Doyle capped the scoring for the Yard Goats with his seventh homer of the year in the sixth, and Ezequiel Tovar extended his Eastern League-leading hitting streak to 12 games with a seventh-inning single.

The Yard Goats (29-17) and Reading (19-26) play tomorrow, June 1 (7:05 ET) at Dunkin' Donuts Park. RHP Michael Baird starts for Hartford, and LHP Erik Miller will start for Reading. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP.
