EVERETT, WA - After a three-run second inning, the Everett AquaSox (Short Season A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners) defeated the Boise Hawks (Short Season A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) 6-2 in the first of a three-game series.
Hawks first baseman Michael Toglia, a Washington native, rocketed his second home run of the season over the right field wall to make it 1-0 Boise in the top of the first inning. The two home runs that Toglia has hit for the Hawks have been on the road and both in the state of Washington (solo homer in Spokane.)
The AquaSox responded back with a solo home run from Utah Jones in the bottom of the first, tying it at 1-1. This was the first game for Jones in an AquaSox uniform this year.
A three-run inning would then proceed for Everett in the bottom of the second. After a walk to Robert Perez and then a strikeout, Cezar Izturis Jr. drove a single to right that scored Perez making it 2-1 AquaSox. Miguel Perez followed with a triple that drove in Izturis Jr. making it 3-1 Everett. Then DeAires Moses hit a sacrifice in foul ground in left field that scored Miguel Perez and gave Everett the 4-1 lead.
Everett would later follow up with an RBI-double from Miguel Perez that drove them to a 5-1 advantage. Hawks outfielder Bladimir Restituyo then drove in Aaron Schunk with an RBI-single in the top of the sixth to make it 5-2 Everett.
Patrick Frick then hit his third double of the season that scored Jones and lead the AquaSox to a 6-2 victory.
Boise will take on Everett in game two of the series on the road with Frederis Parra projected to start for Boise.
