Wilson Tobs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs grabbed a three-run lead on Tuesday night but had to hang on as the Fayetteville SwampDogs came storming back, only to have their comeback effort thwarted in the final innings as the Tobs earned a 7-6 victory at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

After surrendering a two run advantage in the early innings, Wilson (19-33, 10-14) came storming back in the top of the seventh to tie the game and regain the lead. Harry Slade began things with a triple to the right center gap and came home to score on Trey Whaley's double. Following a single from Bryant Noteboom, Joe Costigan found a gap and drove home a pair with a double to make it 6-4 Tobs.

As the top of the seventh progressed, the Tobacconists were able to tack on an insurance run when Kyle Hackney drove home the fourth run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right and gave Wilson a 7-4 lead.

Fayetteville (14-9, 32-19) was able to pull to within a run in the last of the eighth inning against Tyler Thompson as they loaded the bases with one out and plated a pair of runs on an infield single from Jacob Golliday and also on a fielder's choice to make it a one-run game.

In the final frame, the SwampDogs put the tying run at second base after a one out walk against Chris Armstrong (S, 1) and with two down, Mike Tauchman looped a ball up the middle and Hackney made a lunging grab to lift the Tobs to a 7-6 victory over Fayetteville.

The Tobs and SwampDogs will renew their vows for the final time this season on Wednesday night when they meet for a twin bill at Historic Fleming Stadium. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 6:00.
