
Blowfish Get Big Win over Steamers

EDENTON, NC- The Columbia Blowfish topped the Edenton Steamers 6-2 Tuesday night in Coastal Plain League Play. The Blowfish remain in first place in the west division with just three games remaining in the regular season.
Griffin Jones got the win for the Blowfish on the mound and Graham Saiko led the Blowfish at the plate hitting two homeruns, one of which was of the two run variety.
The Blowfish return home Wednesday for their final regular season games at Historic Capital City stadium this season. The Blowfish will host the Forest City Owls in a doubleheader beginning at 5:05. Wednesday night is also Fan Appreciation night. If fans bring two canned goods they will receive a free ticket, hotdog and Pepsi. The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
