Wilson Tobs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs closed out the home portion of its 2012 schedule on Wednesday night at Historic Fleming Stadium earning a doubleheader split against the Fayetteville SwampDogs. Wilson dropped the opening game of the twin bill, 8-5 before collecting a 5-4 win in the second game.
In the second frame, Wilson (20-34, 11-16) captured the lead against Jacob Golliday with a four-runs second inning which was highlighted by RBI singles from Mike Dunster and Aaron Rea along with a Harry Slade groundout to plate a run.
However, Fayetteville (33-19, 15-10) came storming back to even the game at four in the sixth inning against Phillip Williams (W, 1-0) as Tyler Ding walked with one out and following a throwing error from the Tobs pitcher, Ding was standing at third before coming in to score the tying run on a wild pitch.
But, the Tobs would answer right back in the last of the sixth against Dale Urqurhart (L, 0-1) as Slade found the gap in right centerfield for a two out double and was driven home hitter later when Rea singled back up the box for a 5-4 advantage.
John Eric Haynes (S, 1) worked the seventh inning and secured the Tobs of a doubleheader split, 5-4.
In the opening game of the twin bill, Wilson grabbed a one-run lead on a three-run home run from Cambric Moye however, Fayetteville scored four runs in the seventh to come from behind and down the Tobs 8-5 in the first game.
The Tobacconists will play their penultimate game of the 2012 season tomorrow night when they travel to Big Rock Stadium and battle the Morehead City Marlins with the first pitch slated for 7:05.
