Owls Sweep Doubleheader from Blowfish

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Forest City Owls topped the Columbia Blowfish twice Wednesday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. The Owls won game one 3-2 and then topped the Blowfish 6-2 in the second game. The Blowfish surpassed the 40,000 mark in attendance with Wednesday night's doubleheader.

In game one Tucker Ward got the start on the mound for the Blowfish, his first of the year. Ward gave the Blowfish a solid five innings of work giving up just three runs on five hits while striking out two. Ward took the loss for the Blowfish. Stuart Pound pitched the final two innings allowing just one base runner while striking out one.

The Owls took an early 2-0 lead in the second but the Blowfish would eventually tie the game in the fourth. Graham Saiko led the inning off with a double and then scored on a Tre-Von Johnson double. The Blowfish scored their second run when Zach Smith grounded into a double play to score Johnson.

The Owls reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth when Gunnar Heidt homered to leftand the Blowfish could not answer. Nate Cudney got the win for the Owls in game one going two innings giving up two runs on three hits.

In game two the Owls used their bats to run out to a quick 2-0 lead when Alex Close hit a two run shot over the left field fence. The Blowfish would tie it at two in the second when Tre-Von Johnson hit a two run homerun of his own. But that would be all the offense the Blowfish would get. The Owls added four runs in the third to take the 6-2 lead.

Chase Rhitarchik started on the mound for the Blowfish going three innings giving up six runs on six hits. Joel Seddon gave the Blowfish two innings of relief striking out four while walking three. Joshua Knab pitched the final two innings for the Blowfish striking out one. Luis Paula got the win on the mound for the Owls going one innings giving up just one hit.

The Blowfish travel to Asheboro on Thrusday for their final regular season game before returning home either Saturday or Sunday for the first round of the 2012 Petitt Cup Playoffs. For information on the playoffs visit blowfishbaseball.com or call 254-FISH.

The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
