Trenton Titans News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - There were a few anxious moments, with the Chicago Express scoring two late power-play goals, but the Trenton Titans (21-37-3-5-50) notched a 5-4 overtime win Sunday afternoon before 1,866 fans in the Sears Center.

In scoring their first back-to-back wins since Feb. 18-19, the Titans dropped the Express, fighting for a playoff spot to 29-26-7-4-69.

It was a fun game for Titans forward Drew Akins, who, entering the game with a single goal, scored a pair against his former mates. Titans defenseman Ray DiLauro, who scored the game-winner with 21 seconds remaining in overtime, along with an earlier tally, was awarded the First Ace.

This was a physical affair, but the Titans took a 1-0 lead with 29 seconds remaining in the first period, as Akins scored his first goal, assisted by Ryan Hayes and Matt Germain.

Chicago's Danick Paquette tied matters on the power play at 4:14 of the second period, but DiLauro connected on his first goal with 3:55 remaining in the stanza, assisted by Dustin Cameron and Chase Langeraap.

Akins put his second puck past Express goalie Brooks Ostergard, making his ECHL debut, 2:16 into the third period to give the Titans a 3-1 advantage, but Pierre-Luc Faubert closed the gap to 3-2 about 55 seconds later.

Things seemed well-in-hand with 7:19 remaining, when Andy Bohmbach was credited with his 26th goal with 7:19 remaining, Germain picking up his second assist of the game, but a pair of power-play goals by Chicago's Scott Wietecha (3:25) and Jonathan Zion (2:11) set the stage for overtime.

Both teams had chances before DiLauro gave the Titans their second overtime win over the Express this season, the other, 3-2, Nov. 26 at home.

The Titans next play at Reading Friday evening, returning home Saturday for Irish Heritage Night.
