Titans Split Doubleheader with Pittsfield, 1-0 and 5-3

June 26, 2015 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Torrington Titans News Release

Adam Erkis kept the Torrington Titans (8-7) off the board during his six innings of work and the Pittsfield Suns (8-8) beat the Torrington Titans, 1-0.

Erkis allowed three hits, one walk and struck out three.

Despite the loss, the Torrington Titans' David Gerics (Pomona-Pitzer) dominated the Pittsfield Suns' batters, giving up one run and striking out five in his six inning of work.

Gerics (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher as the Titans failed to push a run across in game one of the western division doubleheader.

Both the Torrington Titans (9-7) and the Pittsfield Suns (8-9) put runners aboard in game two, but it was the Titans that were able to take advantage, pulling out a 5-3 win at Wahconah Park.

Joel Roman (Feirleigh Dickinson) racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Torrington Titans. He homered in the second inning.

Frank Valentino's (NYIT) six strikeouts were enough to push the Torrington Titans past the Pittsfield Suns. Valentino allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks over six innings. He gets his first win of the season and improves his record to 1-2 overall.

Corey Wilson ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked three, struck out five, and allowed five runs.

The Titans are back in action at home on Friday night against the Bristol Blues at Fuessenich Park. That game is a 7:00 p.m. start with the Titan's Nick Johnson on the mound.
