Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Oak Bluffs - The Worcester Bravehearts lost their second straight game, this time to the Martha's Vineyard Sharks on Friday night, June 26 at The Shark Tank in Oak Bluffs.
The Bravehearts struggled against the Sharks offense especially when dealing with center fielder Ryan Kelly (Salve Regina / Waldwick, New Jersey) and designated hitter Jon Mayer (Bucknell / Dillsburg, Pennsylvania). Kelly went 4-5 with two doubles and three runs scored, and Mayer went 2-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
Both teams were tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the third, but the Sharks rallied for four runs to give them enough for the victory. After five innings the Sharks held a 10-2 lead.
Martha's Vineyard tagged Worcester starter Jonathan Mulford, as he took the loss for giving up seven runs, five earned on nine hits in four innings pitched. Sharks starter Soren Hanson (Colby College / Billerica) got the win despite giving up all five of Worcester's runs in the game.
Hanson gave up seven hits while striking out five and walking three.
The Worcester Bravehearts try to get back on track when they face the Bristol Blues at 7:05 Saturday night, June 27 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
