ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Trenton Titans found the going rough in their return to the ECHL, falling 7-3 to the Elmira Jackals Friday night at First Arena.

Evan Barlow scored a hat trick for the Jackals (1-0-0-2), who won their fifth straight home-opener by taking advantage of opportunities. The Titans failed to answer opportunity's knock on the power play, going 0-for-6.

The Jackals built a 4-0 lead at 9:22 of the second period on a goal by Mike Devin, capping a dominating opening stretch during which the Jackals put the puck past Titans goalie Dave Caruso three times in that span in the second period after Artem Demkov had given Elmira a 1-0 advantage 4:04 into the game.

Mike Radja beat Caruso 42 seconds into the second period, then put in a power-play goal at the 4:01 mark before Barlow made it 4-0.

The Titans finally got to Jackals netminder Brian Stewart at the 11:19 mark of the second period, when Peter Lenes, assisted by Jordon Southorn put the Titans on the board. Following Lenes' score, the Titans put together their best stretch of the game, cutting the Elmira lead to 4-2 on Blair Yaworski's goal, assisted by Dustin Cameron, 1:06 into the third period.

But the Jackals quickly ended any hopes of a Titans rally, as Barlow scored three goals -0 the first on a power play - in a span of 7:57 to push the Jackals to a 7-2 lead. Rob Bordson closed the scoring for the Titans, beating Stewart, off assists from Randy Rowe and Chris Syvret, with 1:05 remaining in the game.

Both teams had 33 shots.

The Titans (0-1-0-0) will aim to rebound at 7:35 p.m. Saturday in the conclusion of the season-opening two-game series between these Atlantic Division rivals.
