Ottawa Titans News Release
Augusta, NJ - The Ottawa Titans (39-35) were unable to complete the series sweep of the Sussex County Miners (40-33), falling 11-3 on Thursday night, seeing their five-game winning streak come to an end.
The Miners took the lead for the first time in the series, tacking on three runs against Zac Westcott (loss, 5-6) in the first inning. Juan Santana's single cashed in one before Jason Agresti's liner down the left-field line scored a pair to make it 3-0.
In the third, the bottom of the order sparked the offence as the Titans got on the board. Rookie left-hander Mike Reagan (win, 2-1) served up back-to-back one-out singles to Michael Fuhrman and Mistuki Fukuda. Next, Austin Davis lined a single to centre to put the Titans on the board.
In the sixth, Austin Davis' leadoff single came around to score, as Joey Terdoslavich put the Titans within one with a sacrifice fly.
Zac Westcott would retire 13 of 14 hitters he'd face from the end of the first until the fifth to keep the Titans close. Westcott went seven and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on ten hits, walking three, and striking out two.
The Titans loaded the bases with two outs against Tyler Luneke but were only able to capitalize with one run. A balk forced home a run to put the Titans within two. Following a wild pitch, the potential tying run moved into scoring position. Luneke then punched out Austin Davis to end the inning to escape the jam.
Over the final three innings at the dish, the Miners added two in the sixth, three in the seventh, and three more in the eighth to pull ahead for good and avoid the brooms.
Despite the loss, the Titans take five of a possible nine games against the Miners, winning the season series for a second-straight season.
The Ottawa Titans return home for a four-game series with a single-admission doubleheader at Ottawa Stadium on Friday night starting at 5:00 p.m. against the New York Boulders. Game two of the twin bill will commence 30 minutes after the completion of game one. All the action can be heard on CKDJ 107.9 and 94,5 UNIK FM and live-streamed on Flo Baseball.
