LAST GAME: The TinCaps defeated the Chiefs, 8-2, on Sunday. Robert Hassell III hit his 10th homer of the year. Corey Rosier also tied Hassell's TinCaps season-best hit streak of 10 games and Cole Cummings tied the single-game season-high in hits: 4.
TRADE DEADLINE: The Padres have been active at the trade deadline, dealing away two player who were with the TinCaps. In Monday's trade for Brewers closer Josh Hader, starter Robert Gasser was sent to Milwaukee. Today, outfielder Robert Hassell III was dealt to Washington in a deal to bring Juan Soto and Josh Bell to San Diego. Hassell was San Diego's top-rated prospect before being dealt. Former TinCaps MacKenzie Gore and C.J. Abrams were also included in the deal.
WHAT'S BEEN LOST: Among qualifying players in the Midwest League, Hassell ranked 4th in average (.299) and RBIs (55), 9th in OBP (379), and 10th in OPS (.846). His 134 wRC+ ranked 9th... Gasser ranked 3rd in strikeouts (115) and 9th in ERA (4.18) and WHIP (1.26).
HOT CAPS: The TinCaps are undefeated over their last 4 series (July 4-10 vs. LC: 3-3, July 12-17 vs. LAN: 4-2, July 22-24 @ DAY: 2-1, July 26-31 @ PEO: 3-3), their longest unbeaten series-streak of the year.
COREY ROSIER: Leads the MWL in runs (69) and in triples (8), while ranking 4th in stolen bases (33), 6th walks (54; 15%), and 8th in OBP (.381)... He's swung and missed at only 8% of pitches seen, the 5th lowest rate in the league... 4th in BB/K (0.8)... On the 9-game trip, Rosier batted .441 with a .474 OBP and .618 SLG, all team-highs. He also led in RBIs (10) and stolen bases (7).
JOSHUA MEARS: In the last five games, he's 7-for-21 (.333) with a team-best .952 OPS. He is amid his longest hit streak as a TinCap this year: 5 games. Between the Complex League and High-A, he's on a 12-game on-base streak dating back to June 28... His homer Thursday had an exit velocity of 114 MPH. For context, Padres All-Star Manny Machado has a max exit velo of 112 MPH this season. San Diego catcher Jorge Alfaro leads the Friars with an exit velo of 114 on a homer. But for Mears, this wasn't even a personal record. In a big league spring training game last year, he hit a home run with an EV of 117.
JARRYD DALE: Ranks 3rd in the MWL in games (92) and 5th in walks (58).
CAUGHT 'EM: TinCaps catchers are 2nd in the MWL in throwing runners out trying to steal (34 CS). Brandon Valenzuela leads the league with 23, while Anthony Vilar has nabbed 9, and Adam Kerner has caught 2.
