Beloit Sky Carp News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Beloit scored in all but two innings to down Cedar Rapids 11-6 in the first game of a six-game series on Tuesday night at Perfect Game Field.
Despite the promotion of the Midwest League Leaders in ERA (Pat Monteverde), batting average (Davis Bradshaw) and stolen bases and walks (Nasim Nunez), the Sky Carp earned the win with a balanced effort throughout a new-look lineup.
Eight of Beloit's nine batters tallied a hit, including five delivering multi-hit stat lines.
The scoring started in the first with an RBI single from Ynmanol Marinez. The Kernels quickly responded with a run of their own in the bottom half on a sac fly off starter Luis Palacios.
The Sky Carp took a 2-1 lead back with another Marinez RBI on a double in the third. Once again, Cedar Rapids responded, this time with a 2-run homer from Yunior Severino to take a 3-2 lead.
From that point on, it was all Sky Carp.
In the fourth, Dalvy Rosario delivered a 2-RBI bloop single to give Beloit the lead for good.
In the fifth, after three straight singles to open the inning, Marcus Chiu belted an opposite field, line drive grand slam to push the deficit to 8-3.
On the other side of the scorecard, Palacios earned the win with six innings of three-run ball, working around nine hits.
The Sky Carp tacked on two more runs of insurance in the seventh, and then one more in the eighth.
The Kernels made things interesting by bringing in three runs in the ninth inning against Tyler Eckberg, but their comeback fell well short.
The series continues tomorrow afternoon with a 12:05 matinee. Edgar Sanchez will take the ball for Beloit in his High-A debut. Fans can listen to the action for free on the Big Radio app.
