TinCaps Rebound With 5-1 Win

Fort Wayne, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps allowed just two hits in a 5-1 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks, Saturday at Parkview Field. The TinCaps came up with the clutch hits as they went 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

RHP Erik Davis went six strong innings, allowing both hits. He walked three, struck out four and plunked three batters.

The TinCaps jumped on top in the 2nd inning. James Darnell ripped a leadoff double into the left-field corner. He moved to second on a groundout and Jaff Decker legged out a two-out infield single to give Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the 3rd, South Bend tied the game without a hit. Rossmel Perez was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a walk to Ramon Ramirez and Brendan Duffy was hit by another pitch to load the bases. Victor Estevez drew an RBI walk to make it 1-1.

It stayed that way until the 6th when Sawyer Carroll smashed a solo home run over the wall in right to put Fort Wayne back in front, 2-1.

The TinCaps tacked on an insurance run in the 7th. Ali Solis reached on a fielder's choice. He went to second on a groundout and scored on Daniel Robertson's two-out RBI single to make it 3-1.

In the 8th, Darnell drew a one-out walk, went to second on a balk and to third on a single by Matt Clark. Adam Zornes walked to load the bases and Decker followed with an RBI single to left to push the lead to 4-1. Solis lifted a sacrifice fly to center to finish the scoring at 5-1.

Davis (5-1) picked up the win; RHPs Stiven Osuna and Brad Brach combined to work three perfect innings in relief. South Bend LHP Wade Miley (2-5) allowed three runs in seven innings to take the loss.

Fort Wayne improved to 33-22. South Bend dropped to 25-28.

The TinCaps and Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks) meet again Sunday at Parkview Field in a 3:05pm start. Fort Wayne LHP Mike Watt (1-1) takes the ball against South Bend RHP Randy Rodriguez (1-1).
