Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps made five errors and the South Bend Silver Hawks pounded out 15 hits as the Silver Hawks outscored Fort Wayne, 12-7, Thursday at Parkview Field. South Bend scored nine runs in the 3rd inning to take command. The loss moves the series to a decisive Game 3 scheduled for Friday at Parkview Field at 7:05pm.

Fort Wayne took a 1-0 lead on Vince Belnome's opposite-field home run to left, but the Silver Hawks quickly erased the advantage.

In the 3rd , the Silver Hawks exploded for nine runs and sent 13 batters to the plate. Fort Wayne made a pair of key errors. A.J. Pollock gave South Bend the lead with a two-run blast over the wall in left-center. Fort Wayne RHP Erik Davis was pulled after just 2.2 innings, his shortest start of the year. LHP Rob Musgrave entered and, after getting ahead with an 0-2 count, gave up a three-run double to Reynaldo Navarro to turn a 6-1 deficit into a 9-1 Silver Hawks advantage.

The TinCaps rallied in the 4th and 5th innings as they loaded the bases with nobody out in both frames and both times scored a pair of runs. In the 7th , Fort Wayne scored a run on a double-play groundout by Belnome to make it 11-7, but that was as close as the TinCaps would get.

In the top of the 9th , Jake Elmore and Pollock slugged back-to-back doubles to finish the scoring at 12-7.

South Bend RHP Daniel Vasquez (5-1) notched the win in relief, allowing a run in 2.2 innings. Davis (16-7), who had won his previous five starts, took the loss, allowing nine runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out three.

The TinCaps are 95-47 for the season. South Bend is 60-79 overall.

It was the first time this year the Silver Hawks won at Parkview Field; they went 0-8 in Fort Wayne during the regular season. The crowd of 5,725 was the biggest in franchise playoff history, double the old mark of 2,379 set in 1995.

Fort Wayne and the Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks) play Game 3 at Parkview Field, Friday at 7:05pm. RHP Chris Fetter (2-1), a Carmel, Ind. native, gets the start opposite South Bend RHP Ryan Cook (11-11). The winner of that game will play the winner of the Great Lakes- West Michigan series, which is also headed for a decisive Game 3 in Comstock Park, Mich.
