West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
The West Michigan Whitecaps sent 11 men to the plate and scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning Thursday night on their way to a 7-0 shutout over the Great Lakes Loons. The best of three Midwest League Opening Round Playoff Series is now tied at 1 game each.
Brandon Douglas singled in the first run of the big rally after Billy Nowlin and Ben Guez had opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Joe Bowen and Gustavo Nunez each drove in a run with 2-out singles. Then, after Brent Wyatt and Ronnie Bourquin walked to force in another run, Nowlin drove in 2 more with his second hit of the inning. Nowlin was 4-4 in the game with 3 RBI. All the runs were charged to Loons starter Jon Michael Redding who is now 16-4 on the year.
Nowlin drove in the final run of the night in the seventh with a single that scored Wyatt.
Whitecaps starter Adam Wilk (3-1) went 5.2 innings and got the win. He allowed just two hits and struck out eight. Rob Waite went the final 3.1 innings for his third save. He gave up 2 hits and struck out one.
The Whitecaps will send Luke Putkonen to the mound in the third and the deciding game of the series Friday night. He'll be opposed by Loons righthander Ethan Martin. Game time at Fifth Third Ballpark is 7pm.
