
Bees Sweep through Kane County

Geneva, IL (September 10, 2009) - The Burlington Bees are headed to the second round of the playoffs after defeating Kane County 4-0 Thursday night and winning the series 2-0. The series sweep marks the second consecutive year that the Bees have swept Kane County in the first round of the playoffs. The Bees will open the second round Saturday night at Community Field.
The Bees opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning. Jason Taylor led the inning off with a walk and moved to second on a Shawn Griffin infield single. Jose Bonilla then bounced into a double play, which moved Taylor to third. Ryan Wood then came to the plate and reached second on an error, which also scored Taylor to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. The Bees made it a 2-0 game when Fernando Garcia singled to shallow right field, which scored Ryan Wood.
The Bees continued to lead 2-0 until the eighth inning when the Bees scored one run to add to their lead. Adrian Ortiz led the inning off with a single and then moved up to third after base-hits off the bats of David Wood and Jason Taylor. After one out was recorded, Jose Bonilla reached on an error, which allowed Ortiz to score. The Bees scored the final run of the game in the ninth inning. Patrick Norris led the inning off with a single and stole second. Ortiz then hit an RBI single to score Norris, which gave the Bees a 4-0 lead.
Tim Melville got the start for the Bees and also picked up the win. Melville pitched six shutout innings allowing just two hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Cole White pitched two shutout innings allowing one hit with one strikeout and no walks to pick up a hold. Blaine Hardy pitched a no-ht ninth inning with one strikeout and one walk.
The Bees outhit Kane County 13-3. Ortiz, David Wood and Taylor each had three hits.
The Bees have Friday off before beginning the second round of the playoffs Saturday night at Community Field. The Bees will either be playing Cedar Rapids or Peoria.
