LAST NIGHT: Fort Wayne fell in a pitcher's duel, 3-1, at Lake County. Joshua Mears hit his 12th home run of the year to help the TinCaps take an early lead, Mears later doubled. Starter Efraín Contreras pitched three scoreless, and hitless, innings with four strikeouts.

START ME UP: Over the last 3 games, starters (Jackson Wolf, Jose Espada, and Contreras) have pitched 14 innings with only 1 run (1.55 ERA) and 3 hits allowed. The trio struck out 17 and walked 4.

HOT CAPS: Fort Wayne is on a season-best five-series unbeaten streak, which began with a 3-3 split versus Lake County from July 4-10. Since July 8, the squad is 15-11.

PATIENT: The TinCaps lead the MWL in walks drawn (4.7 per game).

MISCELLANEOUS: The TinCaps are 34-17 when scoring first (67% win rate) and 10-42 when they don't (19%)... Fort Wayne is 13-13 in 1-run games, 6-15 in 2-run games, and 1-3 in extra-innings.

TRANSACTIONS: On Tuesday, the Padres added 2 starting pitchers and an outfielder to the TinCaps. 22-year-old left-hander Garrett Hawkins and 21-year-old right-hander Bodi Rascon, were transferred from Single-A Lake Elsinore, while 26-year-old Wyatt Ulrich joined from Double-A San Antonio. On the other send, San Diego sent LHP Noel Vela, RHP Edwuin Bencomo, and OF Matthew Acosta to San Antonio and LHP Ryan Och was activated off the 7-day injured list and sent to Lake Elsinore. Also, on Monday, the Padres released reliever Sam Keating.
